Art Play
Each 1 hour 50 min session is split into different phases:
1. Getting creative — the warm-up
Every session kicks off with a short activity suited to the age group — it's a low-pressure way to settle in and get everyone in a creative headspace.
2. The main activity
Once warmed up, children move into their own individual piece. Our curriculum cycles through a range of materials and themes, so there's always something new to try. There's no fixed pace — each child works through the project in their own time.
3. A pressure-free space to create
Sessions bring together children of different ages, each working at their own pace — so there's nothing to compare against and no need to keep up with anyone else. School often rushes creative work; here, children get the time and space to actually explore and enjoy making something.
5. Feeling part of it from day one
However a child joins us — right at the start of term or partway through — the same easy structure means they settle in and feel included straight away. At Tarlatan, every child is welcomed and given the space to feel like they belong.
6. Free Play
Once the guided art activity finishes, children are given the freedom to play outside on the amazing adventure play structures, inside with toys and games, or to simply continue creative making. During this period, they may also choose to try one of the other activities on offer, such as cooking!

Led by practicing artists and makers, our termly curriculum covers a range of themes, techniques, and materials, enabling children to develop skills and interests, and improve their abilities while having fun with their friends.
Our programme combines creativity with technical skill, ensuring that children develop confidence and curiosity alongside technique. Our sessions support fine and gross motor skills, helping children build coordination while they learn.
Once the guided art session is wrapped up, the kids are free to explore the adventure playground filled with climbing structures, outdoor games, and pedal karts, a hall filled with toys and games, or simply continue creating and making!
